So back to google and I studied the open source project that has succeeded to interface this weather station using a separate (not very cheap) receiver, using an Arduino. It is called NODO (yes, the name does not sound like a recommendation, but the name tries to explain it is a DOmotica NOde). The link to the project is www.nodo-domotica.nl and it is an amazing concept. The software has a history of years and seems to be stable, as well as stil current.
First of all, winds are classified by their strength, duration and direction. So, gusts are considered to be short-term (a few seconds) and strong air movement. Strong winds of average duration (about 1 min) are called squalls.
